Being a numpty on these things and having one on offer
at a good price, do I gather it would work blue tooth
with my Nokia 6310i?

Any performance pitfalls I should know of?

Could I also run the TomTom Sat Nav software with it?

What non standard items would I need to add generally
in particular, in relation to the Sat Nav?

Thanks in advance!

Graham,

Answers:

1. Yes the 4150 has bluetooth, yes you'll be able to use you 6310i with it (providing you've enabled data calls or GPRS with your telco provider)
2. TomTom Navigator will work fine with it (as discussed on previousy SatNav threads). With the 4150 you've got the option of going for the bluetooth (wireless) GPS harware or the wired version.

I've just bought the bluetooth version for my XDA II (just ditched the ipaq) and it's abolutely marvelous. One thing I've found is that TTNav requires alot of program memory since it runs blisteringly fast on my XDA II (128mb memory) compared to my old iPaq (64mb).

The iPaq 4150 also has built in wifi which is useful (will save £50 or so on a wifi card).

In terms of performance pitfalls, well you ain't gonna what to surf the web via mobile. Even with GPRS it's quite dire. However, for wap sites and checking email it's fine (providing some doofus doesn't send you a large file - but you can opt to NOT download attachments in the email setup on the pda).

Thanks for the help Steve.

So I guess the 5550 with 128MB would be a better bet?

Bottom line is there are so many options / packages etc
out there, it's doing my head in!

Am I better to buy all the things on the cheap (friends / eBay etc)
or use a specialist shop and buy a package?

If so, what's the deal of the century that would
give me a good pda with sat nav and work with a
Nokia 6310i on Vodaphone?

I money is no option then I'd advise the iPaq 5550 or 5450 with TomTom Navigator 2 with bluetooth. This will give you arguably the best PDA on the market, complete with all the trimings, wifi, bluetooth etc, plenty of memory, good screen, shedloads of accessories availble etc.

One point on the 5550 which I bought last week...

I am using Co-Pilot and after a few problems and speaking to their tech support I was told that the speaker on the 5550 is down-specced on the other iPaq's and will not work with route guidance (I could not hear mine at all!) I had to get a powered PDA speaker/mount which has cured the problem.

They suggested the 2210 was a better option.

Thanks Guys.

Nick, looks like the 2210 does not have WiFi and is only 64mb?

Would I not be better with Steve's suggestion and
getting the powered pda speaker (how much was that?)

Thanks again guys, much appreciated.

EDITED TO ADD.
Battery life on the 2210 is poor 4 hours vs the
5550 at 10 - 30 Hours?

Hmm this looks good to me too?

www.totalpda.com/product4644_0.aspx

Ok it's only 64mb, but it has European maps which
I'd want and TomTom Europe would set me back another £130ish.

Apart from that they appear similar (to me?)

You are right about the 2210, and thats why I went for the 5550, just wanted to make sure you didn't have to do like I did and spend more, then end up with a bigger unit due to the speaker.

My initial thoughts were to go for the 5550 and GPS jacket to get a fully portable compact unit, have ended up with a bit of a weird looking bundle of wires!

works well tho

Nick,

Whats the fix like on CoPilot?, I used to use the Navman package and it wasn't that hot on getting a fix quickly. With the TomTom BT GPS, I can get a fix within seconds in my living room!! (used to have to wander into the garden and wave it around!!)

Not that good indoors, unless you are by a window. It seems to take about a minute to get a fix when turned on in the car but can be longer when in the centre of Birmingham (high buildings I supose).

I may consider an external antenna but the truck already has three aerials!

What was the exact package you bought Steve?
