confused

But only a week or so ago a case against a nurse wanting to wear a cross to work was upheld.

Where's the consistent approach?

I really hope that is the paper making it up.

Will they seriously risk lives for this?

There are hundreds upon hundreds of medical staff who qualify each year.

There are not hundreds upon hundreds of medical staff who retire.

If the current staff cannot adhere to the required procedures, there are plenty of would be applicants who would love to adhere to these procedures.

There is a very simple solution to all of this.

Why am I thinking that this is the product of some bizarre overpaid thinktank and not muslim staff. scratchchin

being a member of a particular faith is just the same as holding an opinion, any opinion (e.g. "I think football is better than rugby"). I don't get why religious beliefs get more respect than any other respect. They should be subject to the same criticism and scrutiny as any other opinions and not accorded any kind of "special respect." Letting people endanger other people's lives because of their "special opinion" is really dumb. really, really, stupid It's all a result of this "everybody's opinion is equally valid" attitude, which is totally nonsensical.

Now let's blame the state of our hospitals on Muslims shall we. First the airport scanners and now this, what is it with retards that what to strip a lady of her modesty. Typical monkey buggering atheist nonsense.

You retard. People die from hospital super-bugs and you think big deal.

having dangly clothing helps transmit infections. If you make sure that you have no clothing below your elbows and wash up to your elbows regualrly, then you won't transmit infection as well between patients. It's a simple measure that will prevent a lot of illness.

It is unfortunate that it requires ladies to be so immodest, but if that is the price you have to pay to cut infection, then so be it. I hate it when I see a lady walking down the street and some uncouth workmen shout "nice forearms love!" or "Get a look at the wrists on that!" It must be so demeaning.

The "big fking deal" is that it was a policy brought in to combat infections and a single religion is being given dispensation not to adhere to it.

What about lady nurses who want to wear a full burka? Should that be allowed? What about the Voodoo nurse who must wear a dead goat around her neck for 3 months of the year (NB: this is made up)?

Why? Because you're all set up to play the victim in this little sideshow already?

Grow the fk up.

If you want to live under laws based on Muslim principles, go and live in a country where the laws are based on Muslim principles.

Religious freedom should be granted to all in this country, no matter their faith. Unless, that is, exercising their religious freedom has a negative impact on anyone else.

We've got the same ruling brought in in our part of the NHS.

We're all supposed to be 'bare below the elbows' which is all well and good unless we're working outside in the winter!

The newest part of the ruling that's been introduced is that we can no longer wear wrist watches at work due to the infection risks. Anyone who has to wear Medic Alert bracelets due to a medical condition has to have a letter from their GP to say they need to wear it. Anyone who wants to wear some kind of bracelet for religious reasons can do so without permission from anyone confusedconfusedconfused

Nothing like pandering to the religious types, eh?

When i had surgery last week i couldn't help but notice both my anesthetist and one of the assisting doctor both wearing their watchs.

Buggers knocked me out before i could point this oversight of theirs to them

And another case of uk authorities bowing down to 'human rights religious freakery' in action.

Its now ok to throw shoes at people.....as long as you say its part of your ritual.

The thread was started presumably by someone who doesn't like the idea of our hospital hygiene being compromised by people with fking stupid ideas of modesty that were out of fking date in the middle ages you soft .

Now wheres the problem with that?

In my experience it takes both. A bunch of hand wringing left wingers coupled with a misguided and petulant group of ethnics.

This is a bizarre one for authorities to try and justify. It's not as if they can claim it has no bearing on patient health!
