I recently put a replacement back box on my UK '98 DC2 after the last one broke apart.

I replaced the rubber mounts and used heat paste liberally when joining the back box to the b-pipe. Is there anything else I should have done?

I'm asking as now I have a nasty rattle and squeak when easing off the accelerator. By looking underneath its seems that its coming from the connection where I applied the heat paste. There are two spring bolts holding it together and I can't get them any tighter but there seems to be a fair bit of play in the join. It looks like the connection isn't airtight and escaping air is causing the noises.

Anyone got any ideas?

Did it have exhaust paste when you took it off?

I usually don't paste spring loaded exhaust clamps.

+1. It may be the hardened paste that's stopping the joint sealing!

I agree, does the join have a gasket? (normally a fibre ring with this type of join) as the gasket could be worn.
