Hi,

Just got a 535d with the latest HDD Prof nav (which is very good dispite having only 4 digit postcodes!!)

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get music off iTunes on my Mac and onto the HDD in the car.

I've tried dragging a few albums off the itunes folder on the Mac and into a USB stick, but the car can't "see" it.

Tried turning car off and locking for 5 mins and returning, still no joy.

I'm worrying that I'm going to have to manually burn all my CD's into the HDD one by one frown

Any help much appreciated, don't know where else to look!

PS. Forgot to say.

The car has the USB in the glovebox but NOT the 6FL USB Interface in the armrest. I've got an iphone cradle which works fine, but has no connection to play music.

I'm wondering if I'll have to fit a Dension ipod connector in the glove box (£400) or retrofit the 6FL lead at BMW (£many millions)

Have a mac and am due to get pro nav in my new car. As I understand it you need to format the USB drive as FAT32 so the BMW can recognise it (it wont see Mac formatted drives) you can do this in applications>utilities>disk utility. You will also need to have the music as MP3 files I think as well.

I had the same problem.

If I remember correctly, iTunes will store the files as M4A format. The car wont recgonise these, you just need to convert to mp3. This is possible within iTunes on the mac but does create duplicate files (however these are simple to remove afterwards).

Hope this helps.

  • **UPDATE****

  • **SOLVED****

Bought a new 8gb usb stick (£15 from Staples) and then just dragged and dropped all the itunes folders onto it from the music folder in the mac and its worked a treat.

All tunes are as easy to find as they are on an ipod. Very pleased smile

Thanks for the help guys.

Looking forward to trying this system out in the 6.

How're you finding it?

Yeah not sure to go this way when I get mine and just have the iPhone charging and connected purely as a phone, or buy the cable and have it for music as well.

Can you do playlists on the HDD?

It actually struggles a bit with the 3GS as its not yet tested and there are some compatibility issues.

The 3G with 2.1 software has been tested and works well.

Shame that BMW are soo far behind with the testing and updating of their system.

If you're speccing a new BMW, then make sure you get the USB interface in the centre armrest.

I've had to upload music into the HDD from the usb port in the glovebox, and it does work well, you pick the artist/album/song just link on an ipod. Not sure about playlists, but I think you can.
