After years of dreaming and a week or so waiting to get a reg transferred Im finally picking up my E39 M5 on Wednesday and I cant wait.

Taking it to a local specialist first for a service and to sort a few things out but I cant wait.

Going in with my eyes open but hopefully it will be everything I expect it to be. Going to take some time to learn how to drive it properly though.

Coming from a 231bhp RX8 Rev box to a 400bhp monster is going to feel very odd but Im going to have fun learning.

Will post pics ASAP.

Well done on your purchase!

I had a similar experience when I stepped up from Honda S2000 to E39 M5. I missed the Honda's high-revving immediacy and nimbleness, but by God the BMW is fast. And effortless so, too.

The biggest issue is the size difference with the BMW occasionally feeling a bit unwieldy (I live in Jersey with too many narrow country lanes), but the acceleration is sooooo addictive.

Enjoy and post pics!

Ben

Picked it up this morning and I am totally and utterly over the fecking moon.

It doesnt seem real at the moment but its amazing how a 10yr old car can still drive so well and not make a rattle or a creak.

The brakes are poor so its going in tomorrow to get them sorted but the power is amazing and yet it cruises so well.

Felt very nimble for such a big car too.

Its fully loaded

- Black
- Sat Nav TV
- DSP which sounds quite good
- Alcantara Headling
- Extended leather
- Rear Blind
- Glass Roof
- Recent paint and wheel refurb too.

The bill for the service and brakes will be a bit painful but I had factored this in when I did the deal just hope nothing else is thrown up.

Welcome to M5 ownership! I love mine, great as an everyday car then when you want a bit of fun off you go!

Discs and pads are a killer, not tempted with an upgrade? Wish I went for 6pots when I did brakes.

No I will stick with standard at the moment. Discs dont look too worn but they feel like they might have warpred. Should find out tomorrow.

Averaging 15 at the moment and thats taking it easy due to brakes.

My 968CS was red which was a great colour until it turns pink or orange. Always been a Porsche fan but compared to an M5 they are over priced IMO and I wanted something for the family too. Pics here, getting it detailed on Monday not that it really needs it Im just making it feel that bit special.

Well done mate and welcome to the M5 Club!

A stunning looking car.....you will get so much pleasure out of owning and driving it....it's a VERY special car indeed.

The biggest fun will come from learning how to drive it and beginning to appreciate the balance, grip and controllable handling....amazing really for such a heavy car.

Well done, I made a similar purchase a year ago and still going great. Just a quick tip, keep an eye on the oil level, you will find it uses it, don't worry it's normal but get yourself a stock of Castrol Edge 10/60 for top ups and also shop around, some places charge way over the top. 500ml-750ml per 1000 miles is usual, also tells you this in the manual. Enjoy !
