I remember last year when contracting for a small company, that we received a leaflet informing us of plans to make us buy carbon credits to allow us to use a certain amount of electricity ie if you buy 30 units worth of carbon credits, you can then use 30 units worth of electricity that you then have to pay for as well on top (if this is exceeded, you're fined heavily).

I seem to remember that April 2010 was the date that they wanted to introduce it, has this happened or has it disappeared?

I can sell you some 'carbon credits' if you want. I sell them at £1000 per ton of CO2 through my newly set up company, Snake-Oil North East LTD. smokin

Hey I'm serious! The leaflet was very vague about what "might" be happening, but it could just as easily have been a scam (carbon credits are anyway, but a scam as in a fat Nigerian rather than a fat Scotsman).

Cannot remember what the bloody website was either and googling "Carbon Credits" brings up so much bloody nonsense furious

This year (from now) is the measuring year.
Next year you'll have to buy enough quota for the electric you use.
You=an organisation using over 600MWHr IIRC

"CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme", aka the Carbon Reduction Committment. Loads of info on the
DECC website

I thought the first year after the measuring year was an allocation rather than a purchase, but could be wrong. Recently had to sit through a CRC presentation for work and it seems ferociously complicated.

That's the amusing thing, isn't it. If you can afford it, you are permitted to burn the planet to death.
