door rattles

noticed on the sticky's it mentions loosening the door catch on the door and tapping it back in a bit to stop it rattling, my question is having bent my long nose pliers trying to twist it round how do you loosen it and what exactly does tapping in a bit do? can it be loosened from inside the door with card removed?

You are better off using a pair of pipe pliers to get a good grip. Turn it anti clockwise to loosen slightly. It goes through an elongated hole into a captive nut inside the door. Loosening it will allow you to tap it at it`s base towards the outside of the door. When you retighten it, the effect will be the door is tighter when in its closed position thus maening no rattles. Hope this helps !

is it better to loosen actually on the bit that protrudes with some grips then? on the faq it mentions the grooves around it to loosen it but that way seems very difficult.

I use a set of modified cir-clip pliers to do mine. Adjust the strike plate on the door, you will see 2 holes to stick you adjusting tool in. IMO there is a fine balance between no rattles and getting the door flush, and popping open properly. Be careful.

noticed on the side thats rattling it only has one disc whilst on drivers it has 2 which would explain why it wouldnt budge and the noise, put small amount of tape around the skinny part that protrudes and seems to have done the job.
