I thought you could only get legal aid if your earnings were below a certain limit?? How the hell have these three jokers managed it?

You have to laugh.

They are above the situation, clearly.

To be expected a stunt like this

They are fed up that they cannot go back next month for more gravy
They are fed up the boss ( Brown ) did not help them.
They want to damage NewLab
They claim legal aid , more hate towards NewLab
More votes for A.N other
They hurt Brown
If they win and claim unfair dismiss then even more dosh.

Country is a joke

I know I shouldn't be surprised by anything these three do this as truly taken my breath away.

Lets get this 100% right. They steal money from the public and then get the public to pay for their defence against the crime of stealing money from the public?

Really, truly you couldn't make this up. It just goes to show what is wrong with politicans in this country and especially Labour ones. They really believe that they are above the law, that we are all little people, that our opinion doesn't matter and that we are all cash cows ripe for the picking. They are better than us and they know whats good for us.

I woudn't condone vigilante behaviour but if these pathetic, egotistical, greedy, self satisfied smug morons get through this case without at least one person taking a swing at them outside the court I would be very surprised. I really hope that some lags in prison are getting ready to give them a very warm reception but I doubt it. They'll probably end up in an open prison with all the benefits of a halfway decent hotel.

I can just therefore use this forum to say I hope they all die horrible painful deaths in the very near future. I would say it would be ironic if they went into hospital for an ingrowing toenail and caught C-Diff but of course they would go into a private hospital.

So I think we'll go for the method of death that an ex-girlfriend (nurse) mentioned to me. If you time it right when you jump in front of a train you can get sucked between the platform and the train. Someone did it once while trying to commit sucide and basically what happens is the bottom of your body gets twisted around like a corkscrew. You basically stay alive and are able to talk to people and have people tell you that you are going to die. Because when they remove the train you unscrew and you insides fall out like a bag of wet washing.
The only thing I would add to this method of death for these Liarbour scumbags is that hopefully they would remain alive just long enough to watch some pigs begin to eat their entrails.

These people are scum. Forget about being embarassed to be the same nationality as these pathetic walking lumps of snot are, I'm embarassed to be the same species.

Under the existing legal aid framework, how would three people earning at least 60k a year qualify for it?

Because THEY don't have to live by the RULES you do.

yes

No word from the Conservative bod on whether or not he will also have his hand out for legal aid, it would be a very quick and potentialy worthwhile PR win, for the Conservatives to find a none legal aid way of funding representation

During the hearing, the politicians' request to be allowed to stand in the well of the court, rather than the dock, was refused by Judge Timothy Workman.

Ok chaps, here's how it goes.

At the moment, (and it is all about to change...) everyone who is before the Crown Court is entitled to Legal Aid as of right.

Yep, that's right. You are entitled to free representation, even Richard Branson, should he find himself charged with a criminal offence dealt with in the higher court.

But the Judge has power to order you to pay your defence costs at the end of the case, regardless of whether or not you are acquitted. (But I can't remember the last time this happened...)

At the magistrates' court, however, there is proper means testing.

So you are not entitled to Legal Aid in the lower courts if you earn more than £18,000. If you have any sort of a job you probably won't get Legal Aid, unless you have ten illegitimate ginger children.

Our heroic Labour MPs have scored a huge own goal by publically taking advantage of the system, instead of dipping into the huge pot of cash that they, ahem, allegedly nicked from public funds.

In one fell swoop they have done more damage to Gordon's chances of re-election than twelve months of campaigning by drippy Dave Cameron.

So unless the Tory defendant (or whoever pulls his strings) is terminally stupid, then there is plenty of political mileage to be made.

And the Legal Aid system?

Well, you will all be pleased to hear that means testing in the Crown Court is about to be re-introduced.

I won't tell you which talentless bunch of tossers did away with means testing in the first place, though their name rhymes suspiciously with New Labour....

Lord Hanningfield. The least wealthy of all them yet funding his own legal costs from his own pocket.
