You are probably getting hit by blaster (or variant still runing round the net). You need to go to Microsft and get the patches. If you are on XP turn on the internet firewall in the advanced connection properties for your BT connection.
go here and get ms03-026 and ms03-039

Nothing to do with Windows - sounds like you have some variant of the blaster worm virus.
You can download a trial version of Norton Anivirus here: http://nct.symantecstore.com/fulfill/0001.105#nav

Its a built in vulnerability in windows so re-installing opens the hole that was patched by automatic updates. The firewall thingy is in
"start" then "control panel" then "network connections" then right click on the BT yahoo connection and select "properties" Click on the "advanced" tab and select "protect my computer and network by ...." check box in "Internet Connection Firewall"
Once you have the patches installed turn on automatic updates to get future updates Do this by right clicking on "my computer" then select "properties" and go to the "automatic updates" tab

i cant find those patches, there all ms 04.... the firewall seems to have stopped the restarting though

i still cant find those patches
is their no other way i can fix it? im going to buy the norton anti virus tomorrow, would that fix it? the only problems i have at the moment is disconnectiong when under too much load(like to pages loading up at once) and slower than normal internet. the restarting has stopped now.

Emphatically, No - there is no other way to fix it. You have to get the patches. You can buy all the firewalls and anti-virus programs in the world but you will still be vulnerable.
Go to
www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp
where you will find precise instructions on what to do and where to get the patch. Use a friends computer if yours wont stay online long enough to read all about it.

it seem this isnt the only problem i have
when i switched it on this morning it wouldnt start- it just froze before windows even started with a gentle clicking noise. it finally fired up(
) after 3 go's but is this linked? it did this yesterday which is why i actually reinstalled windows. or is it yet another problem?

The reason you can't see the patch is because I sent you to the wrong page
you have to click on "security bulletin search" on the left menu. Alternatively you could just use the link posted by andyf007.
As arcturus says nasty clicking noise on boot is probably your hard drive gently giving up the ghost. If you have only had it a month take it back.
