Cheap Washing machine needed for rental house- any thoughts
Discussion
Hiya folks, need a cheap washing machine for our (small) house which we're renting out at the moment- very keen to get something that will do the job, and be fairly reliable without spending more than we have to?
Any recommendations?
- have been 'amusing' myself with consumer reviews of the budget brands (Haus, Beko, Indesit, Matsui,...
...anyone have any recommendations of something that won't break in five minutes but doesn't cost the earth?

Have the tenants actually requested one? If not, leave them to provide it. Just another thing to go wrong.
House is rented with machine, so we are responsible for it.When they move out (which to be honest, we're in no hurry for and quiet happy with them there) we'll remove it and rent it without applicances, but for the moment, the rental includes the machine, so it needs to be there..

Wise.In the meantime, i'd buy the simplest, most basic, cheapest brand new machine on the market WITH a warranty. For your own use, I wouldn't bother. Tenants however, are a different matter, and they won't treat appliances with as much care as if they were their own.
Whatever you do, avoid Hotpoint (I believe they're the same as Indesit now). One of our rental properties came fitted with a brand new washing machine, dishwasher and two fridges all made by Hotpoint. Apart from one of the fridges, every one of them has needed replacement or repair - complete junk. We've just replaced the washing machine with a Neff one, as we've decided the cheap machines are a false economy. Even the Hotpoint/Indesit repair man admitted the quality was "crap" these days since the takeover.
If you want to buy cheap, then this is possibly the only time that those "Five Year Extended Warranty" things might make sense.

Might not be best brand, but full 5year warranty.

Check freecycle or the small ads, plenty of fully working machines in there for free or £50. We had 3 years out of a Bosch dishwasher (and it was our wiring that died, not it!) and just picked up a replacement Bosch for free from friends of friends who were having their kitchen refurbished.
