Can anyone else not stand this guy? He's clearly an intelligent and probing interviewer, but he has a ridiculous obsession with trying to get a simple answer to a complex question as well as ridiculous sensationalism. For example, in the interview currently on TV with Nick Clegg, he just described £700 as "nearly 3 times as much" as 300, (in relation to somebody on 8k getting 300 extra a year, and someone on 50k getting 700 more). Firstly 300 as a proportion of 8000 is much more than 700 to 50,000 and secondly it's not nearly 3 times as much, it's just over twice as much.

Personally, i'd like to see him on somewhere like C4 as I think he gets reigned in too much on the beeb.

He's become known for "just answer the question" type interviewing. I think it worked well when people refused to give him a straight answer but these days politicians know what to expect from him.

He still doggedly seeks these "yes or no" type answers when often they aren't really appropriate or possible.

I still enjoy most of his interviews though, his incredulous expressions alone make them worth watching. hehe

Considering his clearly fully paid up membership of the New Labour Socialista I think the BBC reigning him in is one of their better decisions.

I love the way he sneers at the students on University Challenge, when they give a wrong answer to a question that he thought was easy.

I also love his smug, supercilious, posturing and disdainful superior attitude towards the politicians.

Also, his insistence on pronouncing pronunciation pronOUNCEiation really grates on me.

He's can be such a tit. His snide incredulity when contestants on University Challenge give wrong answers bugs me. It's so easy to be a smart arse when the answers are written on a card in front of you.

Just watching the interview with Nick Clegg, who to be fair pointed out that the NHS has employed another 5000 managers this year etc. and this waste can be cut out without affecting frontline services - yet Paxman kept going over the point again and again. Paxman is definitely lefty, but pro-Labour i'm not so sure IMO.

Well, when you also have a double first from Cambridge, you can enjoy the superiority he does.

He makes the fatal error of trying, when in actual fact, those who have "it" don't have to.

Little willy syndrome, IMO.

Nothing to add to this, but I've met him in real life.

He's got a massive head.

Eh? Many of my friends have 'double firsts' (a meaningless statement if there ever was one) and indeed higher degrees and doctorates from both Cambridge and Oxford, and none of them are cocks.

Its all a bit tongue in cheek though. I've met him, standing in a queue at the collections point in John Lewis High Wycombe. He was very approachable and seemed a top bloke. When he finally got to the front of the queue and his stuff was being bought out his wife was fumbling for something in her handbag. Paxman turned and did his best University Challenge 'come on, come on' at her with a smile on his face, which raised a laugh.

I cannot stand his style of questioning no. How he always goes for a simple answer to a supposedly complex question. He irritates me greatly, but I do like seeing how the interviewees cope with the challenge.

Indeed, it doesn't matter, unless you're Paxman and then it's a powerful weapon of inferiority.....

Saw him on his bike once and can concur, his head is slightly gigantic.

I normally like pacman, but the BBC biase was really on show, he was trying to fudge the interview in fear of people liking Nick Clegg and realising their policies are for more people than the other parties.

Whenever pacman has a lib dem on he tries to belittle them in the rudest manner.
I would rather Clarkson interview them.
Im looking forward to seeing if pacman is consistant when he speaks to Brown and Cameron.

Paxman will back down when he feels that someone may penetrate his veneer.

I'd like to see him "have a go" at Hague.

He scares and humiliates politicians, which is alright in my book.
