I am over in Chicago on business at the beginning of May so I am looking for recommendations of what to do and see? I will have a couple of days free to do some touring around and see the sights. I am going with a colleague who is quite the Ice Hockey fan so I assume we will take in a game if possible.

Are there any shooting ranges in Chicago? I wouldn't mind firing a handgun or two!

We can rent a car to get to some sights if needs be. We both like photography and will be taking DSLR's so anything photogenic would be good.

What's the night life like in Chicago?

It's been a few years since I was there, but:
Bob Chinn's Crab House a must in Wheeling - just outside Chicago.
May will be getting warmer, so I'd head up to the lakes for a blast on a jetski.
Chicago night life was always good. Division St was always the liveliest. Also north Chicago around the junction of Lincoln, Halsted & W. Fullerton loads of bars & a few Blues clubs. Saying that Buddy Guy's was always good if you like Blues - a few blocks south of the Sear tower (or whatever it's called now).
There's also a bar on top of the John Hancock tower for a view and a few expensive beers.

There are a few places down near Navy Pier to rent bikes, and then a cycle route that goes about 15 miles North and about 20 miles South from there, all tarmacced, all car free, right along the side of the Lake.

The first 5 miles South are pretty good, the rest not so much. Most of the ride North is pretty nice. There is a free zoo to the North, and the three museums to the South, one is natural history, one is an aquarium and one is a planetarium. (I think.) There is a Science museum about 10 miles South which had an awesome lobby, but is massive, so I didn't have a spare day to kill. If it was wet, I would have got a cab there and got lost.

The architecture boat tour, also from near the Navy Pier, was good too, as the tour guide was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. There is plenty of shopping, and some amazing steak restaurants. We went to a Brazilian place called Fogo De Chao (sp) where they just kept coming over and slicing meat off skewers onto your plate. Save space for the beef rib, it's amazing.

I'm sure there a few other places worth a look, and the John Hancock tower is not as tall as the Sears, but the view is better. For a couple of quid more than a regular ticket, you can have a return to go up at night, which is worth it in my opinion.

Have fun, eat steak and try their deep dish pizza. (Only order a single, no matter how much you eat in the UK.)
