I'm really glad about that.

But if I'd be more impressed if you told us you weren't going to increase every other tax and create 100+ new taxes.

Do they think we will fall for it again?

They said they weren't going to raise income tax last time - they lied.

They'll raise VAT instead.

And fuel duty and council tax and prescriptions (but only in England) etc, etc, etc. They've done more to ruin this country than any war.

They've lied about everything else in the past so why should we believe them now?

What they actually said is they won't change the rates, that doesn't mean they'll move the thresholds lower, e.g. paying 40% on more of your income etc.

People also have very short memories, today the press highlighted the 50% rate but they've already forgotten that Moron Brown abolished the 10% rate.

They said "NO NEW TAX" last time . . . but there have been 100's of new taxes and the basic taxes also went up. Labour are a bunch of thieving gits. Dishonest and corrupt to the core.

The people who were so stupid as to vote Labour in for the second and third period will actually believe it... as they believed that Labour would not misuse the NHS database for their electioneering (cancer sufferers)
A clear breach of the Data Protection Act and NOBODY is taking them to court!!!

They'll raise VAT instead.
My prediction is 22.5 to 25% VAT on everything, possibly some obscure VAT exempt items may remain, but essentially that is my prediction.

Which in turn shows just how poor a Labour Government they are, if they are trying to reduce the gap between rich and poor, why use a tax that hits every man alike.

Heard that one before!

Plus, they've already put it up and got rid of the tax-free allowance, so effectively put it up twice for some people
NI is income tax essentially
VAT will have to go through the roof

They just tell lie after lie to retain power

This.

22.5% VAT on everything save for the "essentials" for Labour voters, such as The Daily Mirror, fags, cider and frozen pizza.

Since 1997, Labour have taken over £1 TRILLION in extra taxes, yet we still have the biggest budget deficit in the G20.

Where did all your money go? Paying the salaries of publicly employed Labour voters of course.

In 1997 40% of the workforce was employed by the public sector, by 2009 it was 51%.

This will be interesting.

I wonder if they will start adding VAT to temporary staff. If they do, (as Darling was going to in 09) the repercussions will be large.

Also, I wonder how people will seek to "get around" this. I can allready see potential moves in markets. (which is a good thing biggrin )

Fiscal Studies say the average family is paying £1000 more in tax than in 1997 and by 2014 the average family will be paying £1520 more in tax.

Enough people know nothing aboout their own finances to not notice rises in every other tax other than income tax so yes Its a good wheeze by labour who have got away with the same argument for 13 years.

It's great how history repeats itself:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/tories-broken...

This from 1994.

Yet time after time the electorate allow the lying scum-bags from both sides back into power.
