On my walk from the station to work this morning I went past 3 large billboard sites. All 3 were Tory ads with big grinning shots of Brown with taglines that basically screamed to me "We dont have a clue how to sort this country out so we'll just point at Labour and say how crap they are".

All I see and hear since the election was announced is politctians NOT getting up and saying here are the reasons you should vote for us but instead they get up and say "They others are rubbish so you should vote for us". Do they hav any idea just how negative a light this portrays them all in?? As if opinions of them could not drop any further, they seem to achieved the impossible with this mudslinging approach to winning an election.

That's because every time the Tory party have a good idea Labour seem to have had the same idea the next week. So they very wisely keep schum now.

I remember the first time I was able to vote (and thinking it was all very exciting). Didn't really have a clue about politics but thought it was very important to use my marker pen.

4 leaflets through the door.
Green Party (or something) - really??
Labour - some policies that looked ok (but were probably just a lie)
Lib Dems - Nice ideas but how on earth would it ever work?
Tories - an A4 glossy criticising everyone else, but mostly Labour

At the time, I remember thinking "do the Conservatories have any policies?". My thoughts were started to change until about 3 weeks ago when I first saw one of their new posters.

Throwing st = not the people I want in charge of my country

Frankly, I couldn't give a toss, as long as we get rid of Labour.

Lots of large Tory posters around here. And I mean LARGE. White impressionist tree on a light blue background, with "Vote Conservative. Vote for Change" underneath. I've seen nothing for Labia, which seems odd considering this constituency is 23rd on the list of marginals they need to win.

Yep, we have a number of the "Vote for Change" posters around here too.

I am really starting to wonder if the Torys are as clueless as Brown and co, if their best argument is "vote for us, because we aren't them"...

I just heard on the radio, Cameron talking about the Tory manifesto. The idea seems to be "Imagine whatever you want it to be - and vote for us on that basis". I guess that is better than Brown though.

Sorry you'll have to name the last election when positive campaigning was the main feature.

I think you'll find it probably hasn't happened in 60 years or more.

Remember people don't vote governments in, they vote them out.

You want negative advertising?
The muppets are arguing over 12 billion NI, 6 billion wastage, not building some schools.

782 billion.

That's how much we owe. 163 billion in borrowing this year alone.
That's what they should argue over.
But they don't because they'd scare the supposedly sophisticated and educated electorate who are all tucked up in their warm fuzzy Brown-shaped 'recovery'.

Bah.

Nothing odd about it at all, Labour (due to their 13 years of fk ups) have lost a large percentage of their non union donors and arguably have only managed to get large amounts out of the unions, by ensuring that the unions received even larger amounts in government grants for training and modernisation.

labour simply do not have the money to fight this election on the same scale as the conservatives, what they do have however are civil servants / PR teams, actively using the internet (forums, face page etc) to spread their "message" and disinformation with regards to the opposition, remember the labour smear website setup by winky, mandy, draper et al? Only the truly naive would imagine that this wasn’t just the tip of the "news speak" iceberg and the public aren’t paying for labours campaign through taxation.

You won't, because the party is broke. They realised some years ago that the real benefit of posters is that the media will slavishly cover the announcement. So wheel in the apparatchiks, rent one display van and print up one poster. Jon's a good'un, and none of that pesky booking of billboards.

You're as likely to see a Labour election poster in the wild as you are to see Gordon Brown's face on a Labour candidate's leaflet. So far only one has done so, the MP for Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath
