2 Tom Tom's - 1 computer
Discussion
If you have 2 Tom Tom's of different types and editions (one UK one Europe) can you use them both properly from one computer or will the whole thing get in a complete muddle?
Supplememntary question: someone's sent me a route file to load into my Tom Tom but I can't see how to get the file from computer to Tom Tom. Guidance please!

Can't comment on two separate units, might be worth creating a second user profile on your computer.
For the itinerary question you need to create a folder named itn at the root level of your TomTom device. Drop the file in there and it should appear in a list when you use the Itinerary Menu function. You can edit it further on the TomTom if you want to add or delete anything. If you make changes, use the save itinerary menu function if you plan to use the route again.

Multiple Tomtom devices are not a problem - Tomtom HOME recognises them separately based on the unique DeviceID so that updates and backups are handled independently.
Tomtom stores itinerary files in a directory entitled "itn". YOu can simply paste the file into this directory, or if you have a Windows PC, the TYRE program can be used to copy itineraries between computer and Tomtom.

Right, I've fallen at the first hurdle. Tom Tom Home recognises that a new device is connected and offers to set up an account for it. But when I try to create the new account for the second Tom Tom the program responds "an account already exists for this email address" and refuses to allow the new password to be set up. It then says the only option is to link the new device to the existing account and adds, "WARNING you will lose the ability to update your old device from this account".
Is there any way around this?

I believe you are referring to your Tomtom online account? I personally don't use this (you don't need a Tomtom account to use the features of Tomtom HOME). Select "no" when Tomtom HOME asks you to sign in and you should be able to sync and update multiple devices with your PC without needing to access the account. On the other hand, if you do require specific services that require your Tomtom login then probably best to contact Tomtom tech support.
Thanks plenty - I'm getting there slowly! Second device is now behaving itself properly. As you said, no need to log in and that was causing the hiccups.
Deputy Dawg explained what to do with the file as "you need to create a folder named itn at the root level of your TomTom device." Within drive E (the Tom Tom) I found the folder called "itn" and put the itinerary files into it.
Hey presto! It looks as though the itinerary is now loaded in the Tom Tom. MANY THANKS guys. The power of PH!
[It's a shame none of this was mentioned in the leaflet which came with the Tom Tom or in the 66 page online instruction mnaual....]
