Alternator Getting Warm

I have just fitted a 2.0 Dohc engine into my cortina and started to do the wiring today. I have used the Sierra alternator.
With the ignition switched off, the alternator is getting warm. It is connected correctly. The Cortina has 2 live feeds from the top of the alternator and looking at the wiring diagram, it doesnt matter which terminal of the two they go onto. The third terminal goes to the charging light on the dash and to the auto choke. My feeling is that the alternator is at fault but any more advice would be greatfully received.

P.S I have not had the car running yet as I have not yet installed the Ignition Control Module.

Its sorted now. The two red wires are supposed to be positioned on one of the three terminals. The Haynes manual wiring diagram was incorrect. I had a main feed wire from the alternator to the battery connected to the 12V output post from the alternator which powered the auto choke. Once connected correctly, the alternator now functions as it should and hasnt been damaged (had car running today).
