Pub recommendations near Chester

Hi All,
It is my mother in laws 60th in a few weeks and she lives near Chester. My wife wants to organise a pretty informal lunch on the Friday for about a dozen people aged from 2 to 75!
Somewhere with good food and ideally some outside space for the kids would be ideal.
Not overly pricey.
Any recommendations?

If you like a carvery then this place is very informal and the food is very good, and cheap as chips. I go for lunch sometimes when visiting a client as it's better than buying a couple of sandwiches:It is my mother in laws 60th in a few weeks and she lives near Chester. Not cheap for a pub, but it's not just pub grub!
Harker's is a very good pub; but, as you say, it's not that cheap and, more importantly, they don't allow children in ( unless they have change their policy in the last 2 years ).Not cheap for a pub, but it's not just pub grub!
Harkers is great if you want Chester city centre but even if they allow children its possibly a bit dangerous so close to unguarded canal. If you want to travel out of city centre a bit I would suggest The Goshawk at Mouldsworth, there is a nice motor museum in village, not Beaulieu but interesting. A little further afield is our favourite pub, The Boat at Erbistock on the banks of the Dee. Can be expensive but its her 60th...........wish her happy birthday, had mine last week
Got kids? Try www.crockytrail.co.uk there's a great pub a couple of miles away the name escapes me but should be easy to find.

The Plough in Christleton is pretty decent too. From a scenery point of view, you can't go wrong with the Pheasant in Burwardsley. Landlord there has an M3 and apparently recently purchased a 997 Turbo...There is the Cheshire Cat and a "Harvester" opposite the Dickens Garage both on the A41 about half a mile apart.

Seemed like a PH retreat, a Ferrari,Porsche and 2 Aston Martins as well as 3 classic cars in the car park.

Road conditions weren't ideal for my blat in the Atom, too many potholes it was like driving a slalom course. Weather made it fun though.I took the Elise up to the Pheasant about a year ago and recall the entrance being OK. I worked there as a teenager actually.
The surrounding roads are a bit potholed, but you just have to plan around them, I suppose. I'll have to check with my dad to find out whether he saw an Atom out last weekend!
