I know its a can of worms that has been debated to death so I'll keep this as specific as possible;

Has anyone in the UK found a broker/insurer that does third party liability cover?

I can replace my bumper, even 12meters of armco, but I can't support a German bankers family and his 24hr health care requirements for the next 30 years!

No, I have come to the conclusion TF is not worth the hassle or financial worry, having just done my first German Trackday I will only ever do Trackdays in the future, marginally less mad biggrin

I raised the same concern - though in general rather than just for the TF specifically - here

Seems like a huge financial risk people are running.

Tell me about it. Been twice and done 16 laps between my old Escos & current Focus. Was happy enough knowing I'd have to fork out for fixing my own car, had never considered third party personal injury claims though.

I might end up in a swift yet!

It does exist, on specialist policies. AFAIK one of the porsche / tvr insurers was offering cover.

or you can choose to rely on the absence of an exclusion in some of the more mainstream insurers policies

Just go out when it's quiet, easy really! Very little risk of hitting another car.....as long as you don't drive like a berk.

Best to avoid it when it's raining as well, can get slippery way beyond what you'd expect on any other road/race circuit.

Summer evenings are the best times, even on a crazy busy weekend. Once you get beyond 18:00 it quietens down significantly.

Off there mid May myself, looking forward to it.

Re insurance. Of the numerous policies I have for various cars none of them seem to exclude it by name or any sort of implication.....not that I wouldn't expect issues if I did have a crash!

My car policy specifically names the Nurburgring as excluded.

Ref VTECMatts post about only doing trackdays, I agree, but........... when doing a German organised trackday in your own car (which Matt wasn't, he was in an RSR car)you still need third party cover.

I've been discussing this with RSR recently - one of the days advertised on their website is a Nurburg organised day - so third party insurnace is required. No disclaimer waivers to be signed.

That's interesting. I wonder if they'll either make this VERY explicit in their booking terms, or perform checks on the day?

I don't suppose they're offering a 1 day 3rd party solution for the duration of their day?

now I hire cars from RSR.

Am there this weekend and then staying for the trackday on monday.

VERY excited. Will be my first trip of MANY MANY MANY this year!

I do find it sooooooooooo hard not to take my own cars out on track though...

Haha what do you think? I'm currently exploring options with a specialist for third party cover.

Dale was very up front in telling me as soon as I enquired, and I have currently got no further in terms of booking until I do/don't sort cover, so not sure in terms of how clear they'll make it. My guess is as clear as mud, but that won't help come a claim!

At the risk of stating the obvious don't forget that its a track day - so even if you have 3rd party cover for TF that will be invalid on a track day. So you need third party cover for a German track day - personally I doubt that it is available for UK registered cars. Obviously very happy to be proved wrong on this point ... wink

The only realistic option is a track day organised by a UK TDO to UK track day rules, like the one on Monday ... see you there!

It's the third party cover that is valid for a German track day that I'm discussing with one of the specialists - whose name shall remain a secret for the moment wink

I'm there 22nd - 25th. Looks like it's going to be a busy weekend, only hotel I could find with enough rooms to accommodate our little group is 18 miles away. The tracks open sat till mon though - all day. I'll prob role up lunchtime and just mooch around till it quietens down a bit.

I hired a Megane from RSR last year, great bit of kit but bloody pricey. The insurance excess was circa 15k.....although the Alfa 75s look pretty good value. But as you say, they're good guys to deal with.

Avoid rain like this you mean...

We're setting off again Thursday 20th May, arriving there on the Friday. I suspect most of the weekend it'll be a bit like this though...

There the same weekend. Guessing it's going to be busy. Hoping that most will go home on the Sunday though, leaving the Monday TF a little lighter on traffic!
