I have a domain I have registered purely to view my cctv from anywhere in the world. Lets say it is www.1234.co.uk I have it working through DNS Exit at the moment with their updater working on my machine to keep the ip address current.
I have just switched to Zen and now have a fixed ip.
Can I now point www.1234.co.uk to my new ip, and if so, how do I do it. My domain host is 123-reg.

I presume I have to change the A, CNAME and TXT records, but just need a friendly reassuring guide to get me there without breaking the internet.

You will only need to change the A record. There will be somewhere within your domain control panel to do this, if not you will need to submit a change request to the company that hosts your DNS records. You will not need a CNAME (alias) entry unless you already have one setup

I have a little box where I can change things. It show an ip address in the content section.
Name Type Content Delete
@ A ip
www A ip

Do I need to change the @ and the www ip to my new static ip?

Ok, let just forget about domain names for a moment.
Lets just say that your fixed IP address is 1.2.3.4 , you will need to port forward the ports (that you DVR needs) to the the IP address on you local network of your (DVR) say 192.168.0.55.

Once you have done this, it should work (famous last words) if you enter the correct address IE https://1.2.3.4:1234 (1234 being the forwarded port).

What make of DVR do you have ?

It is working at the moment but is working with dns exit. Www.1234.co.uk points to the ip dnsexit tells it to, my ip, and dnsexit updates the ip if it changed. Now I have a static ip address, I think I just need to enter it in the domain control under A name, but do I need to change both options give, ie @ and www?
