Chinese cleaver - Chinese Food In Minutes

After watching (and trying) a few of the dinners on this show, I've decided I want need one of the knives she has.

I've google'd a bit and looked on some sites, but nothing shows up like the one the presenter has.

Anyone got any ideas where I can purchase one please?

I'd say your nearest Chinatown - those cleavers, rather like the food, tend to be more rough and ready than Michelin star!

I wouldn't be surprised to find that she's got a Branded one in department stores - she's already flogging books of her series.

No probs Thingimywhatsit, thought it might, I went out and tried to impulse buy a car anyway but it appears all Mercedes salesmen are lazy and useless...

As for the clever, it might be worth a look in your local supplier of expensive but shiny kitchen goodies as it's just round the corner but will probably be expensive. I've got a nice bamboo handled knife from Habitat and I think they had some kind of matching cleaver which wan't that expensive either (£20 or so?)

I will be visiting this weekend with a healthy amount to spend, purely to own and use for a week before it finds its place in the bottom draw.

Have likewise edited mine

My cleaver sits in the back of the knife rack and is used once in a blue moon when I feel the need to make myself feel manly and hit large chunks of meat very hard with a massive knife, but tonight the ingredients for my stir-fry were cut up with my favourite Global knife.

Chinese supermarket can sort you out, but for the other half of the equation get a nice chinese tree-ring chopping board.

however, the bint on Chinese Food Made Easy talks an awful lot of bks. Plus the food she makes is mid 1980s Ken Hom era patronising crap.

And defending cleavers - they are great! Just a bit of a sod to keep sharp.

but perfect for stir fries, you can pick up what you just chopped with the flat of the blade and drop in the wok. Also very good for crushing things like chllies, garlic etc.

I'd probably take it to a local butchers for a good sharpening every so often. Sod trying myself!

Does it matter? she makes it look easy enough for me to have attempted a couple of her dishes, they were even edible

This must be about her third series, previously they were just on the Good Food channel I think.

Well, to answer three in a row...

Yes, I've seen her on the other channels, and some of the low rent daytime 'challenge' shows. Not too taken with, or fussed by, her looks; I'd rather some ugly bd who has won Michelin stars shows me how to cook. Clearly we are watching for different reasons!
