And another from a few years ago.

No sympathy for either of them.

Anybody who travels the east Coast line noth of Retford knows the problems these idiots cause by stealing copper from the rail signalling kit. The service into and out of Leeds in particular used to get hit every week. It has been better of late but stories like this might just put a few more off trying.

I've often wondered what value of scrap is laying alongside the railway lines in rails that aren't being used. Not high at the moment, I believe that scrap prices are pretty low now, but there still must be a lot...

A chap died trying to steal signal cable recently in East Anglia.

But they never arrested anyone else for the crime.

How fked up do you have to be to allow one of your 'team' to die whilst out thieving, then leave him there and stay absolutely 'schtum' about the whole incident?

Puns aside, I really hope the pikey is charged and massively fined for this.

So you need a truck and a crane and several people and it is still worthwhile at that price?

An ex-colleague from Yorkshire got a call from a mate years ago, would he like to earn some extra cash?

He met him, along with a few others, at a recently closed coal mine, at dead of night.

The lads were set to work cutting and loading rails into an old Transit.

Now this guy was not what you might call an intellectual, neither I suspect were his mates, and they kept loading the Transit, as there was room in the back.

Then there was a loud 'crack', and the Transit snapped in half. This put a stop to their dreams of riches.

They had to whip the plates off it and head home poorer!

Ive always wondered about the scrap (i assume?) track which is left next to, inside or just outside, the track which is in use. I'm not a diddy though, for the record.

good luck getting to it, the easy stuff is removed an sold, most of the stuff you see lying about is either new or a complete PITA to get out. oh, and rail only goes to certain scrap dealers, so you might have fun getting rid, unless its to gyppos, and then you wont get £150/tonne.
