Over the years at LMS we have eaten quite well but this year we fancy a bit of a change, some posh nosh, something that wont go off overnight and has the wow factor. Apart from the obvious barbie-Q variations, can anyone suggest something different, something reet tasty to feed six hungry blokes including some suggestions on puddings puddings ! We will have three small single gas stoves.
We will still be having a BBQ one night but fancy spoiling ourselves especially on the sunday night.

MMMMmmmmmmm......sausages......

Some rib eye steak is always good, or some lamb steak with crushed garlic and rosemary rubbed into them with salt and pepper.

Salad with cherry tomatoes, jar of pimento peppers and chilli olive oil dressing to spice it up.

garlic mushrooms fried in butter

tin of potatoes with finely chopped red pepper, water cress and mayo.

love my cars

love my food

Curry thumbup

We bought some turkey fillets (for some reason we couldn't find chicken, but we were probably just being blind) and brought a jar or two of curry sauce with us. Made a marinade for the turkey the night before and chucked it in the fridge, then cooked it the following evening in pans which we heated on the BBQs. We brought a load of naan breads with is (loads and loads in fact, due to a slight communication breakdown in the procurement team) and washed it down with lovely cold lager.

All sounds good until the tinned potatoes. Have to say tinned spuds dont sound good but never had them, so do you fry them with the peppers etc ? or boil them.

We take a pre cooked chilli with us, easy to prepare after drive down and putting the tent up, etc. A quiet(ish) sit down with a glass or two of Ricard whilst it gently cooks. Saturday sees a corned beef hash with fried tinned potatoes, onions and baked beans plus more beer of course. Really enjoy that but it's best not to hang around the tent afterwards!!!

We had horse steak last year which was nice, also did Fajitas. Depends on how culinary minded you are as there is plenty of inspiration to be found in Carrefour.

We had stuffed grilled peppers the first year we went, even got some nice cheese from carrefours fromagerie, The nice bloke gave us extra for attempting it in french, but in the end offered "Nice cheese, yes?" thumbup

Last two years we've seemed to survive on those multipacks of sausages you get, though we're taking a genny and a fridge this year, so some luxurious items can be procured and BBQ'd to within a whisker of its past life biggrin

Look for some Chevaux in the supermarkets wink

we took tin'd curry from tesco's with naan breads last year, for the sunday night as everything is closed. Tasted great and works if you don't have a fridge to store cold food in!!!!

We take down a frozen curry and/or chilli to have on the first night; then it's usually BBQ stuff each night thereafter either with a nice side salad or with jacket potatoes (done on the BBQ).

As mentioned BBQ doesn't need to be snorkers and burgers all the time. Chops/Steak - reet good scran!

+ 2. We took a big chicken and a lamb curry last year. Both precooked and frozen.

They more or less had defrosted by the time we got there. Very tasty with minimal effort (there).

I'm planning a full roast beef dinner for the Sunday this year, but I do have access to a full (albeit slightly scaled down) cooker with four ring hob, grill and oven.

We take a chilli down and a bolognaise for two evenning meals and always have the full English every morning.

What's with the beer bottles on the barbie?

Carrefour sell small trout for a Euro or two each - one per person, sprinkle with herbs, squeeze of lemon, dash of white wine(or beer if you've no ladies with you), wrap in foil et voila! Couple of jacket spuds done on the bbq, minimum effort but maximum "this feels almost civilised" factor. Bon appetit!

We take a certain amount of supplies down including Bacon, beans and HP sauce which we can never seem to find in france.
Every morning the full english washed down with tea and perculated coffee.

Eat out for lunch and every evening is BBQ, usually sausages, hatchettes, herb covered pork steaks, beef/horse steak and various kababs, with selection of vegetables and salad plus french bread.

This year I have a new COB BBQ to play with so we might be a little more adventurous, everything in the evening is washed down with obscenly large quatities of red wine and beer.

Someone in our group thought it would be a good idea to pick up some horse mean one year too... You know when you drop one that makes everyone else sick? The horse meat had me dropping ones even I had to walk away from (felt a little sorry for the people who had bagged a fence space to watch qually in at the Ford Chicane...as I retired by the banking for air!).
