retarded question re what bike

Looking at bikes online
there is a Falcon 2009 hybrid that fits teh bill for me (£199 with mudguards) from evans cycles.
but it has an option of 19" or 21". What does that refer to? (wheel diameter i am guessing)
what is the accepted/standard size to go for?

I am nearly 6foot tall, heavy build, all limbs are in good proportion. Should I be looking at 21 or it doesnt actually affect anything much and is a matter of taste?

Stand astride the bike. On the balls of your feet. You need a clear couple of inches between the top tube of the frame and your nuts. That is how you determine the frame size.

Obviously a bit tricky online so you might need to go to a shop.

In all honesty, try the actual bike if you can... or similar.

See which is more comfortable.

There are rough guides on bike sizing, but, an example being my mate who's one chromosome away from an orangutan has really long limbs, so needs the next size up to what someone less ape like but same height would need.

I disagree, you need more than a couple of inches. If you've only a couple of inches spare the bike will feel massive and horrible.

I agree too. My point was more not to go too close to the balls rather than a definative distance.
