Main Event 2010
Discussion
Looks like a big entry list coming up. Maybe they should run into the night...
I think we will see full fields for each class, I keep seeing pics from Stig Neergard on Facebook and he is bringing some serious weaponry with him.
I also read somewhere though that Micke Kagerad might not do the full tour if he cannot find funding which is a shame.
Be good to see those bump spots attacked in all classes, I can see Top Methanols bump spot record falling again...
Will we see Rob Turner debut in his recently imported TMFC?
Will any one match that 5 Matts laid down at the Euros?
If the weathers on our side, this event could be the best for a long time!

Talking of TMFC any new faces going to be appearing this year? will Arvid Grodem be back, sure i read a while back that Dezsoe Krivan was going to be competing this year, is this true?. Serious weaponery sounds interesting is Stig running a two car team this year?

I know Arvid had his car for sale and had a feint memory he bought a new one...I think Denzoe will stick to more local races although I do like the look of his Celica.NIRO LEWY said:

I can tell by the pics that Stig and Joran have teamed up again and the cars look good in Blue and Red. There is also a 3rd car for the female pilot reported on Eurodragster but I cannot recall what dates she was attending. Search Andy Wilsheer and be careful what you wish for. Drag racing photography isn't all about being close. The stock in trade shots whilst all very good can all be a bit the same unless you have your own style like Dom Romney.
Get yourself along there and experiment. Remember the action on the track represents a lot more action that went on to get the drivers and riders to that point, so be sure to spend time looking around the pits as well.
Have a look to try and find some of Sue Whyte's shots and you will see what I mean.
Stock up on memory cards and indulge yourself with a total immersion into the whole event.
Its a shame the Red Arrows schedule has had to be changed they would have been a welcome change to proceedings as well.

Luckily I know the score with wandering around the pits and taking shots as I have a couple of friends that race at Santa Pod, some that do bike racing, some in hillclimbing and some in circuit racing both in TVRs and MR2s (Oh and rallying
) so lucky enough to be privvy to the world that lays beneath the passtime and see the heartache AND ecstacy that comes with it.If you have a look through the majority of my shots, not so much drag racing as yet, but mainly the track based stuff and static, you will see that I have my own style too....but I need exposure (pardon the pun) to more drag racing to help to apply that style to this discipline

To be honest, even if I dont manage to get press access, I would be quite happy to stay on the sides taking shots and fighting for position because it's what I'm used to doing with my other friends, however I would like the opportunity to take some closer shots and concentrate more on the details rather than the full shot if you get what I mean?
For me, Drag Racing photography isn't about trying to earn money because, to be fair, I haven't earned a penny from it in the past and I dont really expect to (most of my business and future earnings is in industrial & product photography) so it's more of a hobby...but one that I take extremely seriously

I am toying with the idea of coming down for the whole weekend for this FIA meet as I did not go at Easter {weather cold and dodgy and entry a bit light} and I'll be away in September. It looks like being a full entry in most of the big classes {it would be even better if Yas Marina entered TF} and if the weather is OK {given how bad it's been so far this year surely we are due a break} it should be brilliant. A lot of the classes also look to be highly competitive which makes qualifying just as interesting as racing.
I wonder if this meeting will see a decent entry of fuel funnies at last, there seems to be enough cars out there in theory and lots of talk about a renaissance but in the end it always seems to come down to the usual 2 or 3.

Scott, you won't be able to get a press pass without having your images published/used in a recognised source. You can still achieve good things (as you've shown!) from pitside or on the bank
Just what I was gonna say.....

Thanks Adam!!!!

Course it's a different story if you're a published photographer Scott.... Awesome pics by the way

I have been published in the past, but not by anything related to drag racing.
TVR Sprint Magazine has published a good number of my photographs in the past and used them in articles including the Graham Abbott Speed 12 project for which I was kindly invited along to take the pics

But enough posturing, I'm looking forward to my next round at the Pod and meeting more people down there

Dez Krivan wants to run more FIA rounds this year. His appearance opportunities at central European events are getting few and far between as the jet cars seem to be the promoter's favourites for a bought-in show - they don't need to worry about traction issues. As we run mostly on grainy airports, the 4WD drive cars are usually the best best to get down the track.
