Hi,

Recently bought a 540iA Sport and it has the common dead pixel problem.

After reading on here and bmw5 about the guy in Southampton he seems recomended but all of the links to his ebay shop are broken!

Anyone used him recently? still trading? good fix?

Thanks, Max

Hi,

I have an E39 523i SE and had the same problem which was solved by replacing the battery as part of a general spruce up of the car.

It perhaps might be worth a try if your battery is old / on the way out.

It may not be the actual pixels, there are 3 or 4 very small bulbs in the back of the display unit, when they go it may look like a pixel problem, I replaced my bulbs and all is well..

His name is Rudi, I had mine done 2 years back for 80 quid, been perfect since.

Big thumbs up for Rudi, had mine done a year ago, has been faultless ever since, very fast service too.

I used Rudi for my 530i pixel repair, the work was completed in half an hour and the cost a very reasonable £80. The display has been perfect ever since.

So, does he just replace the bulbs or something more complicated?

I think they have to replace the ribbon (plus the bulbs might be dim with age but it's the ribbon that causes the main malfunction). Mine's got this problem too.

You can do it DIY but tbh I'm saving up for someone else to do it!

The radio's the same (another DIY job if you're so inclined). http://pixelfix.net/eng/bmw.html scroll down 'til you find your model.
