charging battery

just been reading some old battery related posts to get some info on my problem and read aboUt charging using the alternator terminal. when i bought the car, the previous owner told me to do this as the battery is in a b**ch of a place. the post said it could lead to more problems. please someone enlighten me.
I JUST WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!

Your battery sits in the battery box here (the empty bit above the fuseboard) in the passenger footwell:



Teh best option to trickle charge it is from the cigarette lighter with a suitable charger (as the lighter is permanent live) like an Optimate or similar.

Note: Post 93 Chimaeras have the battery below the fuesboard in a different arrangement of battery box.

very informative book. so you can charge from the alternator just be careful. it will do till i get a lighter plug for my charger.

You must only charge through the cigar lighter using a suitable charger - Optimate is excellent.
You risk overheating the cars wiring (from which a fire could result) if you attempted to use a normal charger with just a cigar lighter adapter fitted.

..only by cutting and pasting the Picture URL into a separate browser window... Fotango images don't work very well sometimes it seems.

Looks like you are sorted regarding the optimate, one point is that although it may be a bitch to access (which I don't think it is) it's actualy a very good place to keep the battery i.e. dry and warm as opposed to the conditions in teh engine bay - cold/hot,damp,greasy etc. Rich...
