not sure why a xmas special was on, but at the weekend did anyone see the police show? tracking cops round the pubs in cardiff, liverpool, hartlepool etc?

The pubs were aqll kicking out at the same time, 000's on the streets, fights started, bouncers throwing people out etc.. The police said, they wanted to be doing crime jobs, but all available resources sent inner town to deal with drunks..

I shouted at the TV, the pubs should be sent the bill for the police to come and deal ; The pub has the right to refuse to serve if your intoxicated, and to eject you if you are a nuisance, so why wait till 11:30pm? money.

If the pubs are made to be responsible, the "force" could get on with more useful crime work.

just as I finished saying this, the BiB came on and said "the pubs should be fined.."

COme on Blair, sort out police funding properly! charge the pubs for abusing their licences..

Hmmm. Ideal times for "progress" down roads in the middle of nowhere.

Sadly, come Friday/Saturday night this is what most town centres turn into, people pissing, shagging and fighting everywhere. Sadly theres a (very loud and annoying) minority of people whos night isn't complete without being so drunk they have little control over their actions. For this reason alone I avoid going out to pubs on these nights.

Its a sad reflection of our times.

Dropping the standard closing time would help a great deal.

As for fining them, yeah I agree but I think it'd be very hard to prove who had been where, the big pubs would get big teams of lawyers, while the smaller pubs would suffer.

I find a lot of the problems come from the chain pubs which sell themselves as somewhere to get pissed on the cheap, on top of this I have seen people in places like this get served a line of shots when they can barely stand up without the support of the bar. Maybe this is something to do with the fact that they have less of a link with a company then a barmaid in a small local pub.

Why? I think of more relevance would be having staggered closing times

Fine the pubs!? Why? It's the idiots who get drunk and cause trouble that need the full weight of the law bringing down on them. Its like fining car salesmen for each KSI on the basis that they sold the vehicle to a complete muppet. Every weekend you see some Kicker shirt wearing no mark starting a fight. They should be banned from drinking. I.e. they have bail conditions wear each week they have to go to the cop shop and provide a blood sample that is tested for alcohol. If the test is positive they do a couple of months inside. Simple.
