Reverse Gear Selection
Discussion
My dad has just (yesterday) collected an 05 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI with 44K on it.
Having great difficulty selecting reverse. I can just about do it but my mum finds it impossible. The gearbox seems slightly heavy all round compared to my wife's S max with the same engine.
Just searching around on the internet it would seem that there may be a few causes
1. Gearbox oil change required
2. Lack of lubrication on input shaft
3. Misaligned linkages
He is going to take it back to the independent dealer he had it from (only yesterday) but has anyone got an opinion or seen this fault before?
Help appreciated. He's in his 70's and is pestering about it.....
Cheers

Mine was the same when I got it - '05 1.8 petrol with the 5-speed MTX75, 55k on the clock.
Replaced the gearbox oil and now it's perfect. The stuff that came out was stinking, the mechanic said "it was burnt". Put in some Fuchs 75W90 semi-synthetic oil and now it's fine. Even the whining 5th gear is barely audible now.
