What was your favourite World Cup to watch?

Not all of us are old enough to have watched '66, so of all the World Cups you have watched, which was your favourite?

For me it was Italia '90. I was reminded of this when I found this link to a sticker album from the tournament. I had one as well but like most, never finished it.

I still lived in Ireland at the time, it was the first time they qualified and the whole country went on the piss for 3 months. As a Wolves fan it was great watching Steve Bull pull on the white shirt as well.

Has to be 1995 South Africa. ETA Rugby World Cup

A significant step in history, in my life, that I remember.

Also it was my first sporting event I actually got involved in.

Wasn't really w World cup that I remember most fondly, but Euro 96... Superb tourno, and loved every minute of it. Plus it had the added bonu of THAT Gascoigne goal!

Italia 90 for me also.

I was on attachment to the Household Cavalry in Knightsbridge at the time and I remember when Platt scored that goal from Gazza's free kick the whole barracks errupted and went mental - anyone walking past must have got the shock of their lives. Then in the semis we were in a pub in Trevor Square with a really low ceiling and when we scored most of the blokes put their hands and pint glasses through the plaster .

Then we lost and I made a very tearful phone call home to my father.

Euro 96. As was Sat in the sun in greece with my dad and a load of his mates..Was good. Should really enjoy this years though with the amount of time off work I've booked

ETA . Of course that Gazza goal was brilliant, The place erupted.

I don't think I have cried since I was a teenager, apart from my Grandad's funeral.

I could not imagine tears over sport.

Also remember the 1990 semi final. I drove from Twickenham to Wimbledon during the first half of extra time. Only time I've ever managed to do a 65mph average across suburban London - nothing else on the roads at all

1982 for me - great weather, great football - a tournament Brazil should have won with ease ... until their defence pissed about it once too often and Paolo Rossi nipped in ...

Brazil had a superb team - Socrates, Edair, Falcao, Zico etc.

One of the great World Cup Games as was the semi between France and West Germany ...

Italians won the final against Germany ... another great match ...

After '82, 1970 was great because I was only 8 I used to watch Good Morning MExico with Frank Bough which was on at 8am and so got into it that way. Watched us lose to Brazil 1-0 with Moore and Pele battling it out - then saw us lose 3-2 from being 2-0 up against West Germany ... Bobby Charlton's last game in an England shirt.

France 98 was the first World Cup I watch a lot of and we were allowed to watch a few matches in the school hall at lunch time, massive projector screen with food and drink from the canteen. On a couple of occasions when we were watching with footy mad teachers they let us stay in and watch the end of the match, screw lessons!

have to say for me it was euro 96 too. i was 17 so most games were watched in the pub drinking newky brown...chris evans and radio 1 got totally swept up with it so each morning i could lie in bed and listen to football banter, in fact the country got into it, baddiel and skinner, some awesome group games, that stoichkov goal from the halfway line, england vs holland, england vs spain, psycho screaming, the sunshine (did it rain once during that competition, the tacky flags on cars, the semi-final, the Sun's front page, the game (i can still see gazza sliding in at the far post and missing the ball by an inch), the disallowed goal, gareth southgate............... the whole nation then supporting the czech republic, only to "lose" again....

best tournament ever. Italia 90 was good but i wasnt old enough to really feel the pain.
