Am i being daft or does the description 'powers up, but not into bios?' not mean anything?

Auction finished now and really not very interesting, but the photo shows error messages regarding boot device failure, which must have appeared after the bios had loaded, no ?

I was after the mb ( seller wouldnt tell me the model # or the p/n of the mb bandit ) and the seller has removed the hdd, so of course there was a boot failure!

What say the ph IT crowd? Would it have got far enough to display that boot failure message, without being able to get into the bios first ?

Not that this really matters - as i didnt bid. Just interested !

I would interpret it to mean that you can't get into the bios.

Maybe the BIOS management was held on the hard disk partition, or the laptop won't POST without a hard drive present?

Aren't you in BIOS to even get that message? It's looking for the boot device which is controlled by the BIOS?

I'd guess this lappy doesn't have a hard drive in it anymore.

ETA the blurb says it doesn't have a hard drive.

Nothing up with it other than its failing to find anything to boot from. No HDD would explain that.

Very, very easy fix.

It's ended now. But everything I read screamed "leave it". More disclaimers than descriptions.

Did you?

john_p - good point. I have come across a hdd bios before, and this is an odd lappy.

Merry - thats what i thought !

Taita - yup read them. Sounds like he has had lots of trouble. Perhaps if he specced his ads up better, people might know what they are buying.

Anyway, thanks for the replies and for confirming that its all odd - not just the bois !
