if we suppose for a minute that the tories get voted in by a majority, what is the chance that they'll drop the soundbite middleist manifesto and go back to more traditional conservative values?

i have to admit, this is my faint hope.

What, you mean say one thing pre election, then do another when they're in?

scratchchin Nah, it'll never work, otherwise it would have been done before now.

hehe

They might get a chance to demonstrate the post-election position:

April 15 (Bloomberg) -- The pound strengthened after a poll showed the opposition Conservatives’ lead over the Labour Party widened, easing concern that next month’s elections will produce a government too weak to cut the budget deficit.

Sterling rose for a second day against the 16-nation euro and a third day against the dollar after the Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that a Crosby/Textor poll of voters in 100 “swing seats” gave the Conservatives 43 percent support, compared with 31 percent for Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s Labour Party. A report today showed consumer confidence unexpectedly declined in March.

“The poll is probably what’s helping sterling stay up,” said Adam Cole, head of global currency strategy at Royal Bank of Canada in London. “It does give the Conservatives a much bigger lead.”

We can hope. But at the same time I would rather that the politicians did what they say they would so that we can try and gain some trust in them..

Same here. Lets have more who say what they mean and then try and do their best to stick to it.

Yes but if they were really honest.... 'We intend to rob you blind and legislate away all of your liberties.' - Not much of a winning electoral position is it?

Greens released their manifesto then?

I'd prefer a slightly more right wingish Cameron tbh - if he just went >>> thataway a bit I think he would get in comfortably - but then he tries to be ALL things to ALL people ... which is his downfall in many ways.

Rather like watching a certain Blair fella all over again - God forbid!!!

Where I live my vote counts for absolutely sweet fk all, so I can vote for someone like UKIP without consequence. Don't think they're any good but the usual suspects scare me.
If I had to vote for slimy Dave & his merry men, I would, but only because voting for Winky & Co is without doubt the quickest way to destroy what is left of this country. Mind you, might get me off my arse and leaving pronto.

Without a doubt, I've never seen such a bunch of feckless, uninspiring and hopeless potential leaders in my life. If this is really the best we have to offer (or more likely, can muster) then we ought to be ashamed.

The really, really worrying part is that the Dark Lord of the Sith has much more about him in terms of gravitas than the actual contenders.
Despise his politics and would rather trust a shart though!

Unfortunately at this point I think that's a good thing. Cameron is only a slower way to destroy the country. The sooner it's destroyed completely the sooner we can rebuild it better.
