Had my first wave today... well 2 actually.....
Discussion
I had my first waves today. Tootling along in the sun with the roof up (i know, i know) i came across a mk3 so i winked the lights and gave a wave only to be met with funny looks.
Oh well i'll try again.
Then i spot a similair mk1 to mine, two lads were driving it i winked the lights and was met with a massive wave , beep and cheer
I got another wave off a silver driver well only a nod but still....
It's childish i know but it put a smile on my face all the way home. I even told the wife. She thought i'd gone bonkers...

There is a sliding scale of likelyhood of a return wave.
Most likely is a bloke driving a mk1 with the top down when the sun isn't out.
Least likely is a middle aged woman in a mk3 with the top up on a sunny day (don't bother!)
I never get any waves, even if I wave first; miserable sods. My other half however, only has to drive a mile up the road and he gets all and sundry waving at him! Most likely is a bloke driving a mk1 with the top down when the sun isn't out.

Make tomorrow's thread: 'Had my first slide today'

Bonus points for waving at other MX5's while sliding

I still feel shy getting the roof down...

Must have been a tight squeeze! Was one steering and the other doing the pedals?

I've started the summer waving already too, one success, one didn't even see me.
My first car was a mini pickup, so well used to waving at minis for years before boring cars took over. It's second nature, shirley!
Had one wave and a flash from another mk1 driver the other day - from the other side of a duel carriageway no less!
Today was mixed - despite the glorious weather I had a mk1 driven by an old woman (obviously with roof up) go past with not so much as a cursory glance at me, then a guy and missus in a yellow mk2 that ignored me.
All made OK by a very enthusiastic waver in a mk3.

I find the same, MK1 drivers wave the most, then MK2 and on some occasions a MK3 driver will wave.
It gets me when I have been out on a run with the worcester 5ivers, mormally about 10 cars on a quiet run.
You get another MX5 coming towards to, 10cars worth of hands are waving and flashing and there is no response. nothing at all.
I did see an old lady the other week at least in 70's, 8am on a grey day, she had the roof off her MK2 and waved at me (topless of course). It made my day.
