I have had a couple of Chimaera's and X spanner shifter years ago.
I would just like to know the pit falls of AJP / Drive train and what to look for / Make sure has been done.
I know all the regular TVR wows chassis ETC and have spent enough time cleaning them up. ( Don't want to do any more of that....).
Thanks....

AJP doesn't <toucheswood> have too many pitfalls, the engine is good, and the gearbox is the T5, which has been around an age and seems to a good job.

As you're aware, chassis is the big one to watch. Electrics annoy.

My advice would be to get one wink

If buying an early 4.2 I would want to make sure the chocolate crank has been changed.(personal experience)

Apart from that you seem to be aware of the usual foibles,so buy buy buy thumbup

That just about sums it up nice and concisely. It'll likely be the most amazing, most annoying and most expensive car you've ever owned. Just get one.

On the Road....Hardly any difference.
The 4.2 has a nice powerband surge at 3500rpm that the 4.5 lacks.
The 4.5 may start pulling away from the 4.2 over 140 ish (when you go to Germany}.
Both are about 350Hp out the box. Spend a grand and you can get the 4.5 up to 400.
Don't worry about the early cranks, if it was going to go bang, chances are it would have happened by now.
Buy on condition not engine size, or colour.

There are some differences.

4.2 were fitted with 16" wheels, 4.5 with 17" as standard. Check for upgrades.

4.2 has a slightly higher diff ration than the 4.5.
Been told 4.2 is 23.5 as opposed to 25 MPH/ 1000 RPM for 4.5.

4.5 diff is hydratrak and IF working correctly more progressive. Big argument to follow!

4.2 was fitted with smaller brakes than 4.5 but a lot of owners have uprated them as it apparently makes a difference. Check for upgrade.

4.2 has different intake set up - big arguments to follow as to which is better, but no 4.2 has made over 400bhp as standard.

However they, including 4.0 speed 6, are all great cars and owning one ticks off one of those life experience boxes!
