My daughter's boyfriend, terribly late with some important university degree coursework, came up with a "Cunning Plan" at the end of last week.

Even though he was at the family home in London, he e-mailed his tutor and informed him that he was stranded in Boston and unable to fly back to hand in his work. He asked for and was granted an extension

What he didn't bargain for was the length of the flight cancellations. The guy's course begins once again on Monday morning.

So, does he turn up and blow his cover story? Or does he hide out until transatlantic flights resume? This could be days and days!

Oh, the sloth and folly of youth!

hehe

He'll have to stay off to make it most realistic.

Brilliant idea though! biggrin

I would just say turn up and try to tell him that one or two flights were allowed...just lie to him.

First two replies and two differing suggestions. It's a tough one

Yeah it could and he can't really stay off for weeks...if all flights are cancelled...doesn't want to fall too far behind on work.

He can say he got a flight to Southern Europe and came overland because he didnt want to miss the start of his course. Might get extra marks for showing commitment and dedication smile

Can he not just say he jumped on the back of a whale, and hitched a lift?

I agree that he should turn up, put his hands up and admit his guilt. As long as he gets the work done, he should be forgiven.

He's a confident little so and so. And, although he'll probably get found out, I admire his initiative.

He's a good kid so I hope he gets away with it.

I haven't had an eruption for months.

Ironically it was while I was shopping at Iceland.

Like already said above. Flew to Southern Europe/Africa and hitched hiked/bussed his way back to the UK. Maximum brownie points!

Or he can do what I did and just not go to lectures smile

Indeed.

"Professor, I only said I couldn't fly back from Boston."

Surely any professor with half a brain would have looked at the routing of the email to see where it was really sent from.

Maybe he is of the 'trusting' kind.

You know, the ones that never find their way onto a site full of cynical bds such as ourselves.

hehe

If this continues, I'm going to suggest that he tell his tutor that made his way home by cruise ship.
