in short do I?

I have been using BlackBerries for a few years on my personal phone and use the following quite heavilly

Email
Messenger (both BB and MSN)
Facebook
Web for PH
Music Player
Calendar (sync'd to Outlook)

The battery usually lasts 1.5>2days...

I like the storm but would like to be able to use the music more easily in the car etc, so I have been looking into an iPod just for that.

I like the keyboard on the Storm allot.

I have about 19gb of Music and a library of film on my home Drive.

Also to add I am likely to endup with either another phone/BBerry when I find a job again.

Im presuming you can set the iPhone to s/r every 30 seconds or so..
Whats the email like?

I have heard that the battery life is poor? how bad in real terms....

Is this going to be a transition from hell, I can use the BB often without looking at it...

Other Combinations I am considering

Keep the Storm and get a Nokia 8800 for when I am out beer

Keep the Storm and get a Nano just for music

Get a Nokia 8800 and an iTouch for email and Music

Ideally a one stop solution would be easier?

Any comment appreciated

D

Hi

I've just moved from a BB Storm to an IPhone 3GS.

For me the BB Storm was very poor, primarily because our IT people had major problems with getting it to sync with our email, but also because it had no wi-fi and the 3G with vodafone was also poor (despite me being repeatedly told that Vodafone's 3G network was the best around).

The IPhone was up and running, linked to both work email and 2 hotmail accounts very quickly and, as it has wi-fi, surfing the net is a pleasure. The ease of use and numerous apps are just the icing on the cake. I really really wanted to like the Storm but I have to say the IPhone is better.

Thanlks this is very interesting and the Wifi would be a benefit... I had no issues re the email side but it is good to see how you are getting on

Went from a BB Storm to a iPhone 3Gs two months ago........best thing I ever did, it links nicely to all email accounts and microsoft exchange for work. After years of BB phones, slow, breaking, limited apps etc, I am now in mobile heaven.

Typically a BB device can last up to 10 times as long as an iPod given silimar data throughput. Also compression of web data is three fold on a BB. Email is secured too. The Storm2 has wifi. That said, the Iphone interface is nice.

It depends entirely on what you use it for. Both have very high standby times, but the more you utilise the device, the more the power will be depleted. Like for like there isn't much difference.

If you need to get e-mail abroad then forget the Iphone. The data roaming charges can be horrendous - whereas it's free with a BB

Is this network dependant?

I would imagine it is entirely network dependent.

You might want to point out the benefits, rather than shouting out a model.

So sorry. There is a very long thread titled HTC Desire in this very forum with lots of information....
Eta - I wasn't 'shouting' either.

Well, whatever. The 'exclamation' mark suggests otherwise.

Since when has an exclamation mark meant shouting? Certainly not when I learnt about punctuation.

exclamation |ˌekskləˈmā sh ən|
noun
a sudden cry or remark, esp. expressing surprise, anger, or pain : Meg gave an involuntary exclamation | an exclamation of amazement.

Never mind. The point was that just saying the name of a phone in this thread is of no use to the OP at all. It tells him nothing.

I gave the name of a phone that I deem to be better than the Blackberry and Iphone. Is it really down to me to list ALL the benefits when as i say there is a 25+ page thread running on it already. Get over yourself.

You could have just said something like

Get the Desire. Thread already running here.

See, not hard was it? Took me all of about a minute to do.

OP, iPhone is a sound choice. You could however, if you are patient, wait for the new one out later this year (I think).
