Just been down to look at car (having head gasket done) and took a few pictures.

They made a comment about the timing that I want to ask you guys about.

They noticed that one bank had the chain 1 tooth out compared to the other bank? is this normal on a 2.5?

Cheers Bondy

the exhaust cam is one tooth out as std except on the M400 which uses the same cams but has the timing the same as ford.... allows the engine to produce power further up the power band apparently.

if you move it to the std position it will need a remap but will allow the engine to rev more moving the power band and allow the engine to produce more power.

Its having mapping done also so not sure what they need to do. I now have more questions. What should it be std and what should it be as the M400 (does anything else need to be done if its changed). Also why would I have one bank different to the other (a tooth difference).

Both banks should be the same, I cant see how it could have been out by a tooth on one bank without you noticing the engine running rough.
Are you sure the garage haven't just let the chain slip on one bank?

it is definatelly supposed to be 1 tooth out as standard and was deliberatelly done by Noble... if its being remapped i would put the timing to the marks... speak to whoever is doing your mapping.

Well they said one bank was one tooth out and that it wouldn't be that noticeable with regards to running, think one was advanced. They also thought that may be the reason for the bit of black smoke?

Right, i will tell them to do it to the marks, will this give more power, why did noble de time it by one tooth?

Whoa,

On a 2.5 the cams should be timed to standard! so no, one bank should not have been one tooth out. Only GTO-3 and 3Rs have the altered cam timing.

Thanks Trev,

Car has been running fine and doing about 340-350bhp so didn't notice anything. What affect would it of had? will I notice anything different when its put right?

Cheers

missed that it was a 2.5... just reinforces the importance of speaking to the person doing the mapping before messing around.

begs the question as to why this 2.5 had modified cam timing like the 3.0, could it be a development car?
