Aspen Elise wanted - 111R or SC ?
Discussion
Guys, need some advice i'm looking for a aspen white Elise rare as hens teeth it seems..if anyone knows of one for sale or thinking of selling theirs please get in touch . Also as i'm new to elise's will a 111R be quick enough coming from a 911 S or would a SC be more suited..? there seems to be about 30BHP difference between the two but in real world driving and the occasional track day would a 111R give me the grin factor..I know the SC has a more powerful tourqe curve.

Having gone from a torque laden V8 TVR to an S2 111s, which probably feels similarish to a 111R (although I haven't actually driven one), I strongly suggest that you try both before making your own decision. Lotus performance is based on different things from a larger, more powerful motor like your Porker and will feel very different. Initially you may find that a 111R feels quite gutless and underequipped, and an SC may feel like a minimum performance level, but as you get more used to the different Lotus driving experience it isn't necessarily less accelerative or slower over the ground, but it does feel it at first. Also, 30bhp may not sound like much, but it will make a big difference in a car comfortably less than a tonne. Try both, then make a decision is my advice.
I'm expecting refinement to drop some what but want to get back to basic direct rills that the lotus should deliver in spades. There are few Aspen white S models about but im getting the feedback from forums that they are a bit gutless. Hence the 111r OR SC. I have found 2 new SC's in the spec i'm after but they want 33k forh them.. seems top dollar.
Oh well if anyone wants to sell there 111R or SC then give me a shout.. cash waiting for the right car.

I had a number of 911's including 3.2 Carrera's, 993 C2 and Turbo.. my most recent car was an Aspen Elise SC. I would 100% recommend going for the SC car after a 6 cylinder Porsche. Think the NA engine will be too peaky for you. The SC was actually very civilised as well and not nearly as raw and bare bones as I was expecting.
Unfortunately I sold mine a month ago to Sicob on this forum as I have moved to the US.

go for a few test drives in all models, don't discount the standard s okay it's not to some peoples tastes but there is a very different challenge to driving all of the elise variants in the s its all about keeping up your speed and not making it up in the straights. i own a elise s and am very confident that if i was in an elise sc i would not see which way my car had gone if i was trying to keep up!
but as said drive them all don't get the aspen white s if after driving it you even think you might miss the power of your old car, but likewise don't buy a r or sc if you'll just wish you had managed to secure a white one.

I really think the S will be wanting especially after the cars I have already had. I have put some feelers out to a few dealers so maybe its just going to have to be a patience excercise to when one of these comes up. In terms of price are we looking at mid 20's for a 111R and high 20's for a SC ?
In my opinion it depends on what you want from your elise.
I was after a car where my license wouldn't be at threat if I was having fun, that I would be able to learn with and get better with but was never going to take It on a track. I am not too interested in straight line speed just the enjoyment of getting that difficult corner nailed.
I'm not saying any other approach is wrong I'm just saying if any of those ideas appeal then try a elise s. If you don't like it cool don't buy it, but if you do won't you be glad you gave it a try!

...it's a great car. What he said re the performance. I feel the R is under powered and peaky. The S2 SC is performance comparative to the S1 NA Honda performance car I had previously, but more refined. Aspen White looks the danglies with black wheels / trim too!
