Still thinking about that MX5 we test drove the other week. We're starting to think that with a wind blocker we might get past the too blustery problem.

The thing is though, I really want air con. Having had a soft top before, on a hot day with the roof down a cool breeze is essential, and if it gets too hot and you have to run with the roof up for some shade (perish the thought) then you fry without it.

The car we looked at didn't have it (despite it being advertised as having it fitted, frustratingly). I have seen it on other newer cars though.

So I wondered what year it became standard, or which option packs had it?

All advice gratefully received as ever. smile

It was standard on the Monatana special edition - only 500 of those made tho.

Other special editions had it.

All the imports I looked at had it, AC is generally a given on JDM cars. Don't know about the UK market cars, sorry.

Edited to add, make sure it works as it often doesn't! Although in most cases it probably just needs a re-gas.

I am, thank you. Sorry, should have made that clearer.

Having looked at lots on line it seems to me that a/c is fairly rare on the MK3 as there are few (if any) imports.

I only know a few people with Mk3s but I'm sure all of them have the AC option. Keep looking.

The 1.8 doesn't come with A/C but the 1.8 Option Pack does come with it IIRC..

The 2.0 Sport does have A/C too..

If no one has got you the answer by tomorrow I'll check at work tomorrow, not there today unfortuntely.

If you're looking at Mk3's you want a 1.8i or 2.0i Option Pack, or a 2.0i Sport.

These are the only models that will have Climate Control (and air con), but it was an option on all of them from what I understand of the brochure on my desk.

Climate Control is now standard on the Mk3.5 Sport Tech's.
