Quick question , if I take a state of the art Digital freeview flatscreen 15 tv (12V operation) to the campsite will it recieve motors TV off the French network or do I need to look at a small satellite dish as well ? Yes we will be at the circuit most of the time but it would be good to keep up with things when we are not at the circuit.

A terrestrial Freeview UK TV will pick up the French equivelant of Freeview no problem. However, neither Motors TV (if that's what you want) or Eurosport (which is broadcasting the race) are on terrestrial Freeview in France.

The easiest way to get the channels you want is to get hold of an old Sky Box, an old dish and take someones UK Sky viewing card. The viewing card needs to belong to someone with a subscription to the channels you want to view (i.e. Eurosport).

I did this last year and it was easy enough once you've got to grips with the technique for aligning the dish. I posted the following how-to on Beermountain last year....

You can still get Eurosport analogue broadcast for free on the Astra Satellite, but you don't get the full flag-to-flag coverage the British Europort offer and it's no easier than doing the Sky digital set-up in reality.

Thanks for that , food for thought , shame we can't just point a little aerial at the local transmitter with all this technology built into the sets these days though.

Sky dish off ebay - £5

Cable for dish from same vendor - £0.50/metre

Tripod for dish off ebay - £15 or fashion your own from an old whirligigg washing line for nothing.

Sky box and card from your house

Job done!

We do this but have Sky+. This means if something happens while we are at the track/village we can watch it back later
