Out for a blast in the 390 yesterday when steam starts to belch from the general direction of the engine ( well, the nearside headlamp pod to be precise ), burst radiator says AA man. Car can be started and it idles OK but sounds vaguely lumpy. Any thoughts on a worst case scenario i.e what needs fixing, cost etc,
apart of course, from new rad,

cheers

If it's near the n/s pod, that's where the otter switch is located. Maybe the Heath-Robinson contraption has just become dislodged? It's only secured with a couple of spring steel clips. Worth removing the headlight and pod for a closer look before removng the rad.

This is the classic place that the rad fails ...otter switch as mentioned but also bottom corner of the rad silts up and rots. worse case is a recore

Did it overheat? If so, the lumpy running might be because it spat a head gasket out.

If it has lots of air in the cooling system then the rough running may be down to the temp sensor being sporadically heated.

Colin

Do you need a lone of a rad to get you to Chatsworth, i can remove the rad from my 350 and you can have it for a couple of weeks . (I've currently got it part dismantled to change the fan)

Thanks Hotty, but ive got it booked into a local garage. Chatsworth will have to be missed but it will be going to BBWF if I have to push the b****r !! (which will be more than likely)

Thanks again for the offer Hotty
