Help!..anyone driving from Milan to the UK today/tomorrow?
Discussion
Hi Folks,
I have a good Client who is stuck in Milan and needs to be back in Scotland by Tuesday night. The Ferries are all full until Wednesday night/Thursday however I'm seeing that the Eurotunnel has space from Calais to Folkstone. It appears we cannot hire him a car to pick up in Italy and drop back in the UK so I was wondering if any of you guys might be undertaking or know of someone who is planning on driving from the Milan area,is booked on Eurotunnel and has a spare seat?
Long shot I know!

I just managed to get back from Milan last night. The hardest bit is getting out of Milan into either France or Switzerland.
I managed to get a train from Milan to Geneva, then Geneva to Paris and the Eurostar home.
The other options are Milan to Chamberry. Hire a car and drive to Calais, then hop on the ferry as a foot passenger (I spoke to ferry operators and they are allowing foot passengers)

Train is the best bet, go from Milan to Geneva or even Lausanne, TGV to Paris, then try a train to either Le Havre or Dieppe, Ferry to Portsmouth / Newhaven train to Sctland.
The Calais ferries seem full, but I booked a colleague stranded in Lausanne on this route and ferry from Le havre had plenty of space, as did Dieppe.
But train to Dieppe is not so god, so maybe consider a one way hire car Paris to Dieppe/ Le harvre.
Be warned, though, it's a long trip. Colleague left Lausanne lunchtime, got to PAris in 4 hours (!) then took 5.5 with delays to get to Le Harvre, overnight in Le havre, but then the ferry to Portsmouth is an evening one, 5pm (slow) or 6.30pm sea cat, sea cat gets in first.
Just before 9pm in Portmouth, I'd think he may be able to get a train to Scotland that evening, but it will be an overnight in Le Havre unless he gets on his way to Geneva / Lausanne very very early indeed!
Not sure hwo much notice he had for this trip, but if I was in Milan and needed be in Scotland Tuesday, I'd have left already!
Took me 22hours to get back from Cork in Ireland on Thurs evening! So he should reckon on 48 hours I think

How good?Hire the car for him to get home, then arrange for the car to be returned to Italy.
Looks like I can get him a hire car in Milan later today with a drop off in Paris tomorrow morning and a seat on Eurostar tomorrow afternoon. Once he's in London tomorrow it's easy enough from there as we can have him transferred by road.
live in Nice currently and trying to get a few vehicles over to Aquitaine which is about 6 hours away from a ferry terminal, if anyone can get to Nice I still have 4 vehicles to get over there, 2 I can take care of but 2 are up for grabs, I could then take you the rest of the way to Le Harve, St Malo etc.
