My Folks were due to fly back from Cyprus on Wednesday but there was an issue with the plane so they were delayed until the next day...

I don't think the part has even arrived in Cyprus yet. Thomas Cook have had to put them in another hotel until they can fly out again.

Male itself is a tarmaced island with a runway lots of boats and a fish market, not a lot else. The population don't live on Male they live on the island next to it which is frankly a sthole. I wouldn't want to be stuck there. On the other hand being stuck on one of the resort islands would be a pleasure :-)

Agreed. I was of the understanding that visitors wweren't allowed to stay on Male itself.

Male itself is a bit poor (but good to get a cheap dive computer), but if he can hitch a lift to a resort, then it's a whole different story.

There is a hotel near the airport. We stayed there for part of a day between flights. Provided the guy can find and afford some extra days on one of the resort islands he'll be fine. I'd swap. Mainly because I'm stuck at home instead of being in Malta (cancelled Friday evening flight). Still, the weather here is pretty good and, work being very flexible, we've managed to rebook for two weeks' time.

Somebody must know. Call the airlines, start alphabetically and we'll get there in the end.

Dont expect to be flying any time soon.As for being "stuck" on holiday what happens when the Hotels start to charge their daily rate? against what you paid for your holiday it could well work out very very expensive.

We are at a resort in the Maldives and due to fly back on Thursday.

I know it sounds like paradise, and it is in many ways, but I'm here with my two year old and wife who is heavily pregnant and we are desperate to get home.

Nobody has any idea what is going on and there does not seem to be anyway to get back to the UK.

"Hello, Aer Lingus? Yes, do you have a "Road Hog" on your system. He thinks he might be flying to Cyprus next Sunday, but he's not sure."

Sorry, I had to read this four times before I worked out you were there with child AND a wife (and not a two year old wife hehe)
That's what you get for skimming whilst eating.
