Dunnow if this is much use, but I did find that wearing a fabric jacket over my leather bike jacket meant the "smiley/frowney" triggered 20mph LATER than it did with the leather jacket on top!! very repeatable too.

Also did some messing about with lasers, and found that foam (sponge) type is very good at absorbing laser & reducing reflection. Esp if sprayed matt black.

And it is true that headlights mess up laser readings, but only at extreme range. Close up the laser comes back off other surfaces, like number plates.

For reference, the divergance of the "dot" means that the often quoted "1 mile sniper" is a fabrication.

There is more to tell though, and if you can use a little imagination you might work out how to make your vehicle a bit more "discreet".....
