For sheer reading pleasure it is the Stonor Eagles by William Horwood. It's a beautifully written story.

[Mobile Chicane]

The Great Gatsby. It's the one book I can read again and again.

[The Excession]

The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie - A wondeful fairy tale type story. One of the few books that has made me laugh out loud.

It's got sod all to do with Islam really, and is a fantastic, entertaining and captivating tale. Full of twists and great insight into life.

Highly recomended if you can drag yourself above all the hype.

Also Lila by Robert M Pirsig is a cracking disection of Western philosophy, taken apart and put back together brick by brick into something that actually makes a little sense.

[matt12023]

The count of monte cristo

but then my favourite film is 'old boy' I love a bit of revenge

I'll settle for The Giving Tree and Watership Down.

A couple of Stephen King books in there. The Stand is a worthy read, as is Insomnia. My favourite of his is The Long Walk under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.

Lord of the Rings is a must if you've never read it.

Arthur C Clarke was inspiring when i was a teenager, but haven't re-read his work for a while.

The best book has to be the Haynes manuals for my cars though
