Pistonheads is the font of all knowledge ever so i'll ask here as I've just spent an age on hold and got no where with the actual company.

If you buy a just a dell monitor from the dell website it seems to come with a 3 year warranty.

Whats the warranty status of a monitor you buy as part of a desktop system from them? A friend of mine has an 18 month old system and the backlight has gone on the monitor - the dell website when you type in the system number says the system is out of warranty so they don't care - I'm having no joy getting to speak to a real person.

Seems a bit odd - same product having 2 different warranties, obviously the PC itself isnt covered anymore but the screen?

Does anyone have a good customer care number for dell?

This happens with hard drives too, buy a western digital and get 3 yrs warranty but the western digital oem hard drive supplied with a HP only has HP's 1 year warranty. If I were you I would enter the monitor service tag number here:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic....

...and if still in warranty then ring Dell with the serial number of the monitor and raise a warranty call on just that.
