Volcanic ash - travel insurance
Discussion
Sorry of repost but have a specific questions regarding travel insurance.
I was supposed to fly to Thailand on Thursday, 30 minutes after this b
d ash cloud cancelled all flights. Holiday shifted to Sunday, now shifted again to this Thursday though that is looking 50/50 at best.
I am happy for the arrangements to keep rolling forward as me and gf can be flexible so have no intention of asking for a refund but I am concerned that eventually the hotel could refuse to keep re-booking our dates. So it would be good to understand what is legally compensated in these cases.
I purchased flight+hotel package through a travel agent - ATOL protected and IATA registered, and paid via CC.
CC - inurance invalid due to act of god clauses
Flight - my understanding is covered by law and a delay over 5 hours = refund or rebook
Hotel - legally we could be screwed (and this is 75% of the holiday cost)
I have heard that if you booked a packahe deal and if the agent was ABTA or ATOL covered that the whole holiday should be insured. Travel agent recently said they are not giving any refunds for flights or hotels but looking at things case by case. Is this right? Thought they would have to refund the flight at least?
