Hi, I'm contemplating putting my money into an E39 M5. Has anybody any advice for me on what to look out for? i.e.Pre/Post-facelift, known problems etc. I can probably afford one up to 2002 (Is that when the model was replaced by the E60?) I fancy high-spec with all the comms/entertainment/comfort toys, but, in the end, would obviously prefer that my cash went into a car with no mechanical woes. Are there any jobs/upgrades that I should always look out for? Vanos/Clutches etc. etc. Have the cars any known fragilities?
Thanks to anyone who might reply.

Indeed, use the search function. Log onto M5Board and you'll find more info. than you could reasonably expect.

BMW Car magazine have published buying guides in the past. Why not get one of their back copies?

Condition and history is more important that age and mileage...But that just my opinion.
