I'm watching a police program where they follow officers on the beat, and there have been a few assaults/fights that happened after nightclubs have cleared out. Most of them seem to be dealt with very seriously, with the offenders often being charged for assault etc.

Also, when alot of my mates went over to Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle etc for University, they came back and were amazed that they didn't see any fights while over there. I've been over twice, and haven't seen anything break out either.

Here (Northern Ireland) it would be uncommon if you didn't see at least one fight on a Friday/Saturday night.. Sometimes two, three or maybe 4 fights could break out in different places.. And alot of the time the police won't e present at all, or they might turn up after it's calmed down. And then everyones just moved on..

It's not often that you'll see people being arrested because of a fight.. Unless it's really serious.

Is the attitude to 'anti social behaviour' different on mainland UK? Or is it similar in different parts?

students go to nice studenty filled places, usually on student nights too. The fights occur amongst the great unwashed after kicking out time at stty clubs and pubs.

I can honestly say, I have not seen a lot of fights in Manchester (although I was caught up in one last year). I think it is mostly down to where you drink. The bigger cities tend to be split into different areas which cater for different tastes. The chavs tend to stick to places where anyone with any taste tends to avoid.

In Ashton-u-Lyne, which is a couple of miles closer to me, you would be lucky not to see a few scraps in a night. I think this is mostly down to the fact that every bar/club plays the same music and the chavs go everywhere.

In my experience you don't tend to get fights on student nights. On other nights, often in the same bars, you'll see lots. The police don't tend to arrest everyone either. If nobody's badly hurt, and it's obvious to anyone with half a brain that the people fighting are all more or less equally responsible, they tend just to send them home rather than to the cells.

Haven't seen a fight in a pub or club for years.

Then again, I don't think I'd ever want go to a club or pub where that was even remotely likely to happen.

Usually locals taking offence at the toffee nosed little stes at Leeds Uni...

Saw some truely horrific ones that all started due to them talking down to the locals and thinking they are better than them... big mistake!!

Im from Hull and usually its the sluts (women/lady does not apply to hull) that you have to watch out for as they are vicious bhes who think nothing of glassing/bottling any girl that looks at their desired piece of meat/boyfriend.

When I was a regular club goer I only ever saw two and both were young students who fell over after a pint, If you watch a police programme I'm sure you'll see a lot but in my experience these days there are so many bouncers and police about you'd be lucky to see one.

I grew up in a pub though and that was like a wild west bar every few months biggrin

They do keep shuting down the ethnic themed clubs though as the patrons tend to shoot each other.

Yet to see or be involved in a fight and I've been to lots of different places around England to experience the nightlife.

I just step back and get out... I was the generation of LA's every weekend and going to that and circus circus... I sit back now and realise I was very lucky to only get into a few scrapes, before escaping to Leeds and then London.

It's not that bad. Has the usual 'no go places' like anywhere else.

Used to spend time in Essex and had a couple of occasions where the chavs tried it on.
One where a group of 'em went to deliberately block me walking from the cashpoint at Tesco's (Asda??)in Rainham, having watched me withdrawing cash! i'm pretty wide and solid so just kept on walking, fast!!(Bravado but loads of other people around so fairly safe?) Chav no1 fell into chav no2 who knocked chav no3 into the trolleys.
Cue embarrassed chav wrestling his way out of the trolleys while shoppers stood around chuckling. I went shopping!

Work out of Leeds now, feels safer somehow!!

You tend not to get the same fights in the big cities (that's not to say there's no crime, but it's just spread differently).

In the towns, the nightlife can be very concentrated, often most of the town's popular drinking spots all spilling out onto the same street and then yes you do have this phenomenon - lots of milling about, lots of small fights, perhaps even the odd large brawl. And yes the police tend to try to move people on away from the bottleneck area rather than arresting everyone being aggressive - it tends to be the head-kickers and the glassers that get arrested, plus those that think they can have a go at the police themselves. The thing is, if you arrest someone, then that's an officer or two off the streets for a couple of hours just when you need people on the street.

I grew up in a large northern village / small town - population prob around 4k.

However there was a large number of pubs. Infact about 9 or 10 all within a fairly small radius, plus a small "club" which closed at midnight.

Friday night was like a war zone. For someone unknown reason - possibly the number of pubs or just the fact that it was known as a "good night" people woudl come from nearby towns and even cities!

I'm not exeagerating but by 8.30pm, there would be - every week - 3 riot vans. and at least 4 squad cars. Not doing anything. Just waiting for the inevitable.

And sometime around 9.30 it would start, sporadic fighting, mass brawls, cat fights - and this would go on until kicking out time at 11pm.

Week in week out this happened - I was aware of it for about 6 years. I moved away a few years ago - uni in manchester and then live in sheffield, i've never seen the level of violence I saw at "home". Parents stil live their along with a few friends and a few of the pubs have now shut (or been shut) and Friday night is dead quiet.

From just outside Hull and being going out there for a few years now. I tend to stick to the nicer bits, but have often ended up in the scummiest bars you can imagine at 4/5/6 in the morning. To be honest, I've not seen that many fights and those I have I've never been involved in.

They're easy enough to avoid I think.

Agree re the point about (most) students though, they stick to the student clubs and nights so rarely end up in fights with the locals. Pussies wink

at uni there are weekly fights on thursday bangra asian music night. something about asian rudeboys and wiskey.

back home small town in somerset hardly ever fights, i think ive seen 2 in 5 years.

Used to go out in london with a mate who was an animal when drunk, the bouncers used to see us coming and not let us in anywhere, used to always and up in a grimey club usually a walkabout where he would start fighting with anyone and everyone. was a complete tt to be honest and got deported back to dubai after fighting a couple of bouncers at uni. The CCTV is a great watch.

london = lots of fights.
