Encountered a new aeroplane in a book yesterday and just looked it up - CF-100.

Whilst doing so I also found a history of ejections. It's a bit of shambles but worth poking about.

Think I've mentioned this on here before, but I went to a talk by a bloke form Martin Baker some years back. He was saying one of the first ejection systems MB worked on was for the Spitfire. It had a beam hinged at the base of the tail, running along the spine of the aircraft, and hooked in to the pilots harness. With the canopy jettisoned, a spring under be beam lifted the pilot out of his seat and threw him over the tail.

There's a CF-100 preserved at Duxford. It's a big beast for a jet fighter.
