So, the wife has a 2nd gen iPhone. Was jailbroken but now has a full 3G O2 sim with iPhone bolt on. Upgraded to OS3.1 and now whenever I connect to iTunes (which I have to because I get emergency calls only) I get the "this SIM is not an iPhone SIM" error. Have restored, nothing, have tried a restore from DFU mode, nothing. Have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow. What do we think the outcome of that will be?

If you've restored from itunes then the phone won't have any hacks on it so the genius bar shouldn't pick anything up and should sort you out no problems. If the phone is over 12 months old, they might charge though, but I'd doubt it.

Have you tried blackra1n from the DFU screen? This could sort out any problems with the need to visit them

www.iclarified.com - tutorials.
All you need to know about jailbreaking/unlocking the phone.
Don't upgrade to 3.1.3 - but 3.1.2 is worth go to.

Thanks for the replies. BlackRain gives the same result.

I'm loathed to upgrade to a newer device with the 4g coming out (and because I want to get her on a BB).

Sounds like it's faulty, if you've restored it, and then tried to run Blackra1n or do any of the other unlock/jailbreak procedures.
Have you tried an O2 SIM in it, to see if it works with that?
